Meet the Central Services Team

The Interim Chief Executive Officer, Mark Woods, oversees the work of the central services team which provides our Business and Educational Services.

Mark Woods

Interim Chief Executive Officer

Mark has been Meridian Trust’s CEO since 2013, leading the Trust’s journey from two schools to thirty today. Prior to this, he was the Headteacher of the Trust’s second school, Nene Park Academy. In 2004, Mark became Vice Principal at the Trust’s original school, Swavesey Village College, one year after Martin Bacon became Headteacher. Mark and Martin thoroughly enjoyed their years working together.

Mark began his teaching career as an English teacher at the Deacon’s School in Peterborough. He moved to become the Second in English at the Jack Hunt School, Peterborough, before being promoted to Head of English at Sawtry Village Academy.

Mark has been a member and Chair of both the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Schools Forums for several years. Over the years, Mark has been a serial Governor / Trustee with many different public sector organisations. He has been a governor at both Nene Valley and Woodston Primary Schools, and more recently a Trustee of OWN Trust from 2019 – 2024, and is delighted to return as a Trustee in his capacity as Interim Chief Executive Officer of OWN Trust.

He is currently a Trustee of University Centre, Peterborough, and has been a Trustee of the Peterborough United Foundation for over a decade. Mark has supported ASCL Aspirant CEO sessions, and at the request of the DFE has supported a number of events for newly founded multi-academy trusts – enthusiastically sharing all of the mistakes he hopes never to make again.

Mark is a lifelong Posh fan (season ticket holder, single shareholder and – through the Trust – landlord of the training ground), eclectic music fan, and avid CAMRA member.
