OWN Trust Cup Football Match

By Ben Cowles, PE Lead, Orton Wistow Primary School (OWN Trust)

On 8th November 2021, Orton Wistow Primary School football team visited Nene Valley Primary School for the next match in the OWN Trust Cup.

The set-up provided by Nene Valley Primary School was brilliant. The OWPS team saw a few new faces, and it was wonderful to see the enthusiasm of all involved. As well as providing the opportunity for an inter-schools competition, being part of the OWN Trust also enables the children to mix with other children from different schools, thereby broadening their experience. Whilst the game was a competitive one, it was great to see fair play and teamwork in action.

The game began similarly to the Woodston game which took place on 18th October 2021. Orton Wistow Primary School got off to a bad start in the first half. OWPS struggled to retain possession of the ball and allowed the opposition too much time in their half. The Nene Valley Primary School team was strong  and fielded some excellent attacks on our goal.  After half-time, the OWPS team refreshed their focus and came out in the second half in fighting spirits. They brought the game back to 3-2. A special mention goes to Elsie J-P from OWPS for getting her first goal, which was brilliantly taken.

It was a close win by Nene Valley Primary School and yet another defeat for Orton Wistow.  There were, however, plenty of positives to take from the event. Orton Wistow Primary School will host both Woodston and Nene Valley Primary School at home in the coming weeks.
