OWN Trust Professional Day - Teaching Staff
By Colin Marks, Headteacher, Orton Wistow Primary School, OWN Trust
All teaching staff and senior leaders from the three schools met at Orton Wistow Primary School on Monday 30th October for the OWN Trust Teaching Staff Professional Day.
The joint training day focussed on leadership development. Although there was a lot of talk around subject leadership, the training was for all staff no matter what they lead on in their school or Trust. There was a huge range of leadership experience in the room, but the content was relevant to all.
Steve Russell, who runs Beyond Behaviour, joined us for the day and led three sessions. Steve has worked with OWPS in the past, helping us develop our behaviour and classroom management techniques. He now supports individuals and schools through coaching and planned this day around leadership.
Steve focussed heavily on the Functional Fluency model, and we spent a large part of the day considering the five elements of this and the positive and negative leadership styles we can choose to use. There was time in the afternoon for leaders from the three schools to network and spend time talking to those who have similar leadership roles in the other schools. There were a lot of chances to talk with colleagues throughout the rest of the day and share thoughts on the content of the sessions Steve had put together.
