Quality of Education Committee Meeting 01.10.24

By Sarah Levy, Director of Education

The Quality of Education Committee met one evening at the start of October. Mary Foreman, Chair of Trustees, stood in as chair as Mark Woods was otherwise engaged.

The Education Team, consisting of OWN Trust CEO, Lorraine Greco, myself, Nick File, and Trevor Goakes are all working to set targets and begin targeted work in specific areas within all the schools. We meet fortnightly as a team to discuss work streams and priorities. Each week we all report to Lorraine the work we have carried out and the resulting impact of it. The Quality of Education Committee

Nick is primarily at Woodston supporting teaching and learning in Year 5 and 6, with Trevor split between the other two schools. At Orton Wistow he is looking at GDS maths and writing outcomes to boost combined data. At NVPS he is looking at SPAG and supporting the implementation of PiXl. They continue to lead Impact Champions and ECTs.

The headteachers were asked to share their biggest priorities for the year, which included: the quality of teaching and learning, improving outcomes in reportable year groups, and SEND and EYFS provision.

Lorraine shared the highlights of her data analysis highlighting the strengths and areas for improvement. The use of data and Insight is going to be streamlined, and the process and expectations simplified so we can all make the best use of the data available. Lorraine is keen for all staff to realise the role they play in securing good standards. Targets of 65% combined in yrs3,4 & 5 reflect this ambition and expectation.

We had a discussion about PiXl and how it is being used across the Trust. Thanks were passed to Colin, headteacher of Orton Wistow Primary School, for his leadership of the move to PIXL and training of staff in the two other schools as OWPS is more experienced and practiced with using it. Lorraine, headteachers from the trust schools with their Raising Standards Leads, and the two Executive Deputy Headteachers are attending the first conference in London on the 3rd of October. The impact of this will be an agenda item at our next meeting, scheduled for 3rd December.
